01Who we are

Buka is operated by Riceboy (Pty) Ltd t/a Buka, a company registered in South Africa with its head office in Cape Town. We are the "responsible party" for personal information processed through this website and our pre-launch channels.

Plain version: Buka is a Cape Town company, and we're the ones responsible for looking after your information.

02Data we collect

Right now, before launch, we keep collection deliberately small:

• Your WhatsApp number and name, when you opt in to the founders list.
• Contact details you submit through the partnerships form (name, email, company, message).
• Basic, aggregated usage data about this website — page views and approximate region. No advertising profiles.

Plain version: a number, a name, and what you choose to send us. That's it.

03Why we collect it

• To send founders the drop — launch updates and early access on WhatsApp.
• To answer partnership, press and talent enquiries.
• To understand, in aggregate, whether the site works for the phones and networks our audience actually uses.

We do not sell personal information. We do not run third-party advertising on this site.

04Who we share with

Only the service providers that make the channels work: WhatsApp (Meta) for the founders list, our bulk-messaging provider for launch notifications, our hosting provider for this website, and professional advisers where the law requires it. Each provider processes data under its own agreement with us, and only for the purpose we set.

05Cookies & trackers

This site uses no advertising cookies and no cross-site trackers. We use, at most, a privacy-respecting analytics measurement that records the visit, not the visitor. Your browser's "do not track" preference is respected because there is nothing tracking you in the first place.

Plain version: no creepy cookies. Counting visits, not people.

06Your rights under POPIA

The Protection of Personal Information Act gives you the right to:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
• Ask us to correct or delete it.
• Object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time — reply STOP on WhatsApp and you're off the list.
• Complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe we've handled your information unlawfully.

07Retention

Founders-list data is kept until you opt out or until twelve months after launch, whichever comes first, after which it is deleted or fully anonymised. Partnership enquiries are kept for as long as the conversation is live, plus the period our legal and tax obligations require.

08International transfers

Some of our providers (for example WhatsApp and our hosting platform) store data outside South Africa. Where that happens, we rely on the provider's POPIA-recognised safeguards and contractual protections. The protection travels with your data.

09Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell the founders list directly. We will never quietly downgrade your protections.
